Toyo Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Eiji Hosoi, “TOYO”) is pleased to announce that its g-Methanol™ Demonstartation Project Team has received the 2026 Engineering Encouragement Special Award, presented by the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA). The award recognizes TOYO’s methanol synthesis demonstration plant project developed for NTPC Limited, India's state-owned power utility, using TOYO's proprietary e-methanol production technology, g-Methanol™ .

 

The Engineering Encouragement Special Award recognizes outstanding projects and pioneering initiatives that contribute to the advancement of Japan's engineering industry.

Overview of the Award-Winning Project

The award-winning project involved the construction of a methanol synthesis demonstration plant at the Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station in Madhya Pradesh, India, owned by NTPC Limited. The plant produces e-methanol, or synthetic methanol, from captured CO₂ and hydrogen produced trough water electrolysis powered by renewable energy. Through this project, TOYO's successfully demonstrated its proprietary g-Methanol™ technology under actual plant operating conditions.

 

In June 2025, the plant produced the first batch of methanol meeting the required product specifications. It also successfully demonstrated methanol synthesis at a capacity of 10 tons per day, using captured CO₂ and hydrogen produced through water electrolysis – the first such achievement in India.

 

The project was highly recognized as a pioneering initiative that demonstrated the practical viability of carbon-recycling technology and its potential to support the future commercial deployment and wider adoption of e-methanol.

 

Building on the results of this demonstration, TOYO will continue to promote the adoption and commercialization of e-methanol and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.

e-Methanol, also known as synthetic methanol, is a low-carbon methanol produced from captured CO₂ and hydrogen derived from renewable energy, without the use of fossil feedstocks.
