What is g-Steam™?

g-Steam™ is TOYO's industrial electric boiler for manufacturing applications. It is based on the tube-type electric boiler technology that TOYO has refined over many years through auxiliary boiler systems for nuclear power plants.

The boiler generates steam using only electricity, without burning fuel, and therefore produces no flue gas emissions from the boiler itself. When powered by electricity derived from renewable energy, g-Steam™ helps reduce the carbon intensity of steam supplied to manufacturing facilities and supports manufacturers' efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.

Why Electrify Steam Generation in Manufacturing?

As efforts to achieve carbon neutrality accelerate, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has become an urgent priority for many manufacturers, including companies in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and food and beverage industries.

Although manufacturers are increasingly implementing energy-efficiency measures and using renewable energy, many production processes that require high-temperature steam still depend on fossil fuels. Reducing the carbon intensity of steam supply is therefore an important challenge for manufacturers seeking to achieve carbon neutrality.

Electrifying steam generation is attracting attention as one effective way to address this challenge.

Proven Reliability in Nuclear Power Plant Applications

Since the first unit was introduced in 1989, this technology has been used in boiler systems for electric utilities in Japan. Over decades of operation in environments demanding high reliability, it has demonstrated long-term stable operation, reduced maintenance requirements, and stable performance during earthquakes and other natural disasters.

This track record demonstrates the reliability of the electric boiler technology that TOYO has developed over many years. It also provides an important technological foundation for further reducing the carbon intensity of industrial steam supply.

Key Features of g-Steam™

g-Steam™ is an industrial electric boiler that generates steam through Joule heating by applying electricity directly to the steam-generating tubes. It is suitable for medium- to large-scale steam requirements.

g-Steam structure and three key features: no flue gas emissions, flexible steam supply control, and reduced operating and maintenance requirements

Steam Supply with No Flue Gas Emissions from the Boiler

g-Steam™ generates steam using electricity without burning fuel. It therefore supplies steam without producing flue gas emissions from the boiler itself.

When powered by electricity derived from renewable energy, g-Steam™ helps reduce the carbon intensity of steam supplied to manufacturing facilities.

Flexible Control in Response to Production Changes

With its wide load-control range and rapid response, g-Steam™ can start, stop, and adjust output quickly.

This flexibility enables the boiler to respond to fluctuations in steam demand and in power generated by renewable sources such as solar and wind. It therefore supports both efficient energy use and a stable steam supply.

Reduced Operating and Maintenance Requirements

g-Steam™ has a simple design that eliminates the need for fuel supply equipment and minimizes auxiliary equipment, including chemical dosing systems. By reducing maintenance and inspection tasks, the system can help lower maintenance costs.

The boiler can also be operated using simple push-button controls, reducing the workload for operators.
