Toyo Engineering Corporation’s History: Milestones of Challenge and Evolution
Founding Era: The First Step Toward International Engineering (1961–1970s)
Toyo Engineering Corporation was founded in 1961, during the height of Japan’s rapid economic growth. From the very beginning, the company contributed to building the foundation of society through plant construction that supported industrial development both in Japan and overseas. In the 1970s, TOYO established local subsidiaries in countries such as Italy and India, laying the groundwork for its global expansion.
Expansion and Diversification: Onto the Global Stage (1980s–1990s)
During the 1980s, TOYO expanded its presence to Malaysia, South Korea, the United States, and beyond, executing EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects worldwide. The company was listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, solidifying its position as a globally recognized engineering contractor.
Transformation and Rebuilding: Pursuing Value Creation (2000s–2010s)
From the 2000s onward, TOYO responded to shifts in the global market by establishing its Group Mission, Vision, and Values (MVV). Through investments in emerging markets such as Indonesia and Brazil, the company promoted co-creation with local communities.
Laying the Foundation for the Future: New Workstyles and Technological Innovation (2020–2025)
In the 2020s, TOYO identified its SDGs Materiality and accelerated initiatives to contribute to a sustainable society. At the end of 2024, the company relocated its headquarters from Narashino City in Chiba Prefecture to Makuhari New City. Beginning in 2025, TOYO launched a new workstyle under Activity Based Working (ABW), designed to enhance employee creativity and collaboration.
As TOYO enters the final year of its Medium-Term Business Plan (2021–2025), the company continues advancing toward its next stage of growth by strengthening its EPC capabilities and developing new technologies and businesses.
