~Technology Developed for Nuclear Power Plant Applications Enables Steam Supply with No Flue Gas Emissions from the Boiler~

Toyo Engineering Corporation (President and CEO: Eiji Hosoi, "TOYO") has launched g-Steam™, its industrial electric boiler for manufacturing applications. It is based on the tube-type electric boiler technology that TOYO has refined over many years through auxiliary boiler systems for nuclear power plants.

As efforts to achieve carbon neutrality accelerate, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has become an urgent priority across for many manufacturers, including companies in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food and beverage industries. At the same time, industrial heat, including high-temperature steam used at manufacturing facilities, is essential to production processes. Because much of this steam is generated by burning fossil fuels, reducing GHG emissions remains a major challenge. Against this backdrop, the carbon intensity of steam supply and electrifying steam generation are attracting attention as new priorities for manufactures working toward carbon neutrality.

g-Steam™ is an industrial electric boiler that generates steam using electricity. It is based on technology that TOYO has refined over many years through auxiliary boiler systems for nuclear power plants. When powered by electricity derived from renewable energy, g-Steam™ helps reduce the carbon intensity of steam supplied to manufacturing facilities and supports manufacturers' efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.

Proven Reliability Through Nuclear Power Plant Applications

Since the first unit was introduced in 1989, this technology has been used in boiler systems for electric utilities in Japan. It has a proven track record of long-term operation in applications where high reliability is required,

, including long-term stable operation reduced maintenance requirements, and stable performance during earthquakes and other natural disasters.

This track record demonstrates the reliability of the electric boiler technology that TOYO has developed over many years. It also provides an important technological foundation for the future electrification and decarbonization of industrial steam supply.

Key Features of g-Steam™

g-Steam™ is an industrial electric boiler that generates steam through Joule heating by applying electricity directly to the steam-generating tubes. It is suitable for medium- to large-scale steam requirements, with an equivalent evaporation capacity of 2 to 25 t/h per unit.

    • Steam Supply with No Flue Gas Emissions from the Boiler

g-Steam™ generates steam using electricity without burning fuel. It therefore supplies steam without producing flue gas emissions from the boiler itself. When powered by electricity derived from renewable energy, g-Steam™ helps reduce the carbon intensity of steam supplied to manufacturing facilities.

    • Flexible Control in Response to Production Changes

With its wide load-control range and rapid response*, g-Steam™ can respond flexibly to fluctuations in steam demand and in power variations generated by renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. This flexibility enables both efficient energy use and a stable steam supply.

    • Reduced Operating and Maintenance Requirements

g-Steam™ has a simple design that minimizes auxiliary equipment. By reducing maintenance and inspection tasks, the system can help lower maintenance costs. The boiler can also be operated using simple push-button controls, reducing the workload for operators.

Based on technology refined over many years through equipment for nuclear power plants, where high reliability is essential, g-Steam™ provides steam with no flue gas emissions from the boiler, response flexibly to fluctuating steam demand, and reduces operating and maintenance requirements. TOYO will offer g-Steam™ to a broad range of manufacturing industries that use steam, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food and beverage manufacturing.

Through g-Steam™, TOYO will help reduce the carbon intensity of steam supplied at manufacturing facilities, contributing to carbon neutrality in manufacturing and a more sustainable society. Going forward, TOYO will continue to assess potential applications across a broad range of industries and expand deployment of the product.
