Summary

Due to corrosion and a variety of other degradation modes of materials used for process plant equipment, it is crucial to know the mechanism of such deteriorations for purposes of materials selection or remaining life assessment. Based on experiences and knowledge on the materials technology, TOYO carries out materials evaluation and testing when necessary, and utilizes the result for material selection, root cause analysis of the material failure etc.

Example of Electrochemical Testing for Evaluation of Corrosion Mechanism in Refinery

An example of electrochemical testing for evaluation of corrosion mechanism in refinery is shown below. In this evaluation, effects of operating parameters on corrosion by ammonium bisulfide and hydrogen embrittlement are studied. It is shown that corrosion rate is related to ammonium bisulfide concentration and flow rate.
